The Yearning Journal
a quarterly magazine for lovers, dreamers, and yearners. our autumn 2026 issue is titled fall at pemberley. The theme encapsulates romantic autumnal yearning and Jane Austen coziness. Art, photography, prose, poems, essays, and anything else creative are welcome.
submissions open until september 21 2026. the magazine will hopefully start sending out October 16 2026.
send submissions to yearningbookclub@gmail.com. please include your name and title of your piece in your submission. priority is given to women contributors. no AI is allowed to have been used in any part of the creation of your submission— this is a magazine celebrating human creativity.

Submitters will be notified of the decision for their piece by September 30th at the latest.

For written entries, please submit your work as a Word Document. Poems can be included in the email text if that is easier for you.
Art and photography should be sent as a PNG file. I personally always export my piece with at least 300 DPI.

Yes. Please keep written pieces under 5000 words.

Pieces that fit the theme best will be prioritized over those that don’t. However, most of the themes are specific but have some room for interpretation.
This is an intentionally curated magazine that prioritizes quality over quantity. However, if your piece isn’t selected, that doesn’t mean that your work wasn’t good— it just might not have quite fit what we were looking for!

This magazine was created as a companion to my book club, the Yearning Book Club. The book club is a women’s group, so it only makes sense that the magazine prioritize the work of women. However, that doesn’t mean that men and people with other gender expressions can’t submit their work! I’m just being transparent about the selection process.
